FAQs

Here's what people often ask when they find the shop.

Who’s fixing my bike?

Kevin Miller, owner and sole mechanic. He started as a professional bike mechanic in 1994, at 14, at Steve’s Bicycle Center in Milwaukee. He went on to wrench at Williamson Bicycle Works in Madison, ran his own shop, Blue Heron Bicycle Works in La Crosse, from 2004 to 2018, worked as a suspension technician and wheel builder for Bicycle Technologies International in Santa Fe, and owned Rat Race Wheels in Tucson before opening Golden Goat in Missoula.

Do you sell bikes?

Yes. Golden Goat is primarily a repair shop, but Kevin can order bikes from Surly and State Bicycle Co., and custom bikes and wheel builds are an option. He's also happy to assemble a bike you bought somewhere else.

The shop carries components and accessories, too, from a GX rear derailleur to a handmade bikepacking bag.

Do you fix ebikes?

Yes, with some limits. Kevin can handle mechanical repairs on most ebikes and supports major systems such as Bosch, Shimano and Fazua. The work he can take on depends on the bike and the system.

Some bikes sold online have little or no electronic support available, which limits what the shop can do with electrical problems. Call or text before bringing yours in, and please remove the battery before drop-off.

Why the goat?

Kevin explains it best:

I love goats, I'm a Capricorn, and if you speak to any bicycle mechanic or wheel builder, they'll all tell you they are the G.O.A.T., and I'm no exception. Whether it's updating the firmware on your AXS equipped titanium gravel bike, or bleeding the Mavens on your carbon Enduro rig, I've got you covered.
